Real-time strategy (RTS) is a type of game that is played in real time. It’s a game of strategy, so lots of logic is used to make the right moves. All players in the game play at the same time and there are no “turns,” so to speak. Some games that are considered RTS are World of Warcraft, Command and Conquer, and Age of Empires.

The RTS games have evolved from its basic form into something much more. It has developed many branches in its genre giving its players many options to choose from. RTS game allows the player to command armies from the times of ancient Rome and Greece to the present day and even future. This has made a steady mark from its inception and is also the most popular genres available. There are many real time war games have been released and they are still the favorite of the gamers who have played this.

“Dune 2: Battle for Arrakis” the game which started it all is still considered as one of the popular games even today. This game is based on the Dune series of novels. RTS games are one of the most played genres in the gaming industry. In RTS games like “Warcraft”, “StarCraft”, “Age of Empires”, “Command and Conquer” mere intelligence is not sufficient you have to learn to be brutally fast!

When you are buying a RTS game, you have to first check for its minimum required configuration to check if your PC will support the game without slowing the game play down. Sometimes games work just fine even in lower configuration computers when the graphics are turned down.

When you are playing against humans on a multiplayer game, make sure that the game you are playing is a more recent game as there won’t be players available for older games. Also remember to read the user’s manual for every game. This is something most players don’t do. Reading the manual will give you valuable info on how to get through the game faster with the shortcuts and other hotkeys that you can use to your advantage like to make them assume stances with just the press of a key. This could prove to be an effective time saver.

Playing against the computer will vary from each game. Beating the computer in easy game setting is not very difficult. But to make your expertise in the game, you will have to learn to beat the computer in the hardest setting as it will take a considerable experience and tactics. But once you achieve this, you will be one tough foe to beat.

Computer games have really come a long way from the likes of Pong and PacMan. You now have a variety of options, and some of them allow you to play against others in real time. This can be a lot of fun, but it requires a lot of strategy, patience, and practice to get good. You can easily get frustrated, so spend as much time as possible learning the game offline as you can before you delve into real-time play.

One really popular real time strategy game is Age of Empires. It is now on the third version and has two expansion packs (War Chiefs and Asian Dynasty). You start from the Nomad age and use your villagers to upgrade your city and move onto the next age. You have to work on your economy quickly, but also build an army to protect your civilization from an attack. In multi-player mode over the Internet, you have to build a strategy against your opponents, which basically means you need to either turtle (focus on eco and army equally, but not attack until you are far enough in age), boom (focus on eco all-out at the beginning then build an army in minutes), or rush (build an ambush at the beginning to take out your opponents before they have a chance). Each has its strengths and weakness, and it can be a lot of fun figuring out which strategy works the best for you.

What is a Real Time Strategy Game?

Are you wondering what a real time strategy game is? A real time strategy or RTS is a specific sub-genre for strategy video games. What makes this category of games different is that the games do not progress in a turn-based or incremental manner. The term was initially coined for the game Dune II. Real time strategy games like war games involve positioning and maneuvering structures and units that are under their control in order to secure map areas and to destroy assets belonging to the opposing players.

Unlike a first-person shooter, multi-player game like Assault Cube, in RTS games additional structures and units can generally be created and added throughout the course of the game. Generally this is going to be limited to the earning and expense of resources that must be accumulated throughout the course of the game. Players can garner these resources by controlling points on the map or by possessing specific unit types devoted for the purpose of earning resources. Then these resources can be used to buy new units and structures to create a stronger force.

A typical RTS game is going to feature gathering of resources, building of bases, technological development in game and the indirect control of various units. RTS games will have different required tasks that the player must perform in order to succeed, and these can be complex and demanding depending on the game. As such, many RTS games have complex user interfaces. There are other similar games that employ real time tactics without necessarily being categorized as a RTS game, including city-building games, construction simulations and city management simulations. Despite featuring real-time tactics, these are not real time strategy games.
