About IAVRT

The International Association of Virtual Reality Technologies (IAVRT) is a not-for-profit professional organization dedicated to fostering scientific research and business development in the area of Virtual Reality (VR) technology for the benefit of society.

To that end, the organization was founded to enable the sharing of resources, knowledge, and technology that will serve to advance the VR industry as a whole, while at the same time affording the highest level of respect for proprietary knowledge and technologies.

IAVRT represents the interests of individuals and organizations spanning a wide range of industries working with VR technologies including the medical, education, entertainment/new media, software, hardware, and telecommunications industries to name a few.

As VR technologies evolve, the organization will, through its elected members and committees, serve to set standards and protocols designed to ensure consumer safety and the industry's long-term ability to remain self-regulated.

IAVRT is an international organization and thus open to members worldwide. Membership is open to any individual or organization in any industry associated with VR research and/or technology. Individuals and organizations must be IAVRT members in order to be eligible for IAVRT funding.

As the leading organization dedicated to the development and commercialization of virtual reality networking technologies, IAVRT is working with its member peers to create the roadmap and the framework of emerging VR technology worldwide, including:
  • Advanced R&D in VR technologies
  • Intellectual property & technology transfer harmonization worldwide
  • International nomenclature and standards for new VR technologies
  • Developing a VR 'Neuronet' that will enable virtual reality experiences across distances
  • Managing and overseeing the Neuronet's domain naming system
  • Developing guidelines for quality control of neurosites on the Neuronet
  • Developing neurosite programming framework and initiatives
  • Education & training in the form of seminars and symposiums
  • Developing occupation health & safety regulations
  • Economic development to bring jobs and prosperity to provinces/states & regions
  • Fostering venture investment for existing and start-up companies
  • Interfacing with government in developing public regulations & policies
As a professional organization, we have a number of panels and subcommittees focusing on the following:

  • And other committees being established to address various issues relating to VR technologies.
IAVRT is organizing the premier international conference dedicated specifically to the advancement and commercialization of VR technologies. The conference will take place September 30 – October 2, 2007 in Vancouver, Canada. Topics addressed will include scientific research, product development, intellectual property and technology transfer, research collaboration, venture capital investment, safety, regulation, ethics, and societal aspects of VR technology. Recipients of the first annual IAVRT grants will be announced at the congress. Conference details will be announced in February 2007.
